The Fellowship of Axe and Sword AKA “The Mercs”
The Fellowship, originally “The Fellowship of the Sword” was founded as a warrior brotherhood by individuals serving as bodyguards and caravan escorts for merchants in the Iron League. It grew into a society capable of sponsoring and training warriors that rivals the Legion in power and influence, though not its size; they would be quick to point out they do not and would not consider themselves an army, or indeed a fully military organisation.
Like the Legion, the Auxilliary members of the fellowship are found at the front of combat, either with a shield holding the line, or striking from the second rank with long pole arms or wicked two-handed axes. Unlike the Legion however, the members of the Fellowship are less motivated by the noble ideals of the protectorate but rather by the extra pay that comes from being a member, in addition the parties held at the Fellowships' headquarters in Shadyville are legendary.
The mercs are very much a meritocratic organisation and are often found championing individuals of humble birth or groups that have historically faced discrimination, and as such they have close links with the organisation "Goblins United For Freedom".
