The Guild of the Dark Sanctum (Evil Sphere)

The Dark Sanctum is one of four guilds in the Protectorate dedicated to those who seek a connection to the spheres of power.  There are four spheres that it is permitted to have a connection to in the Protectorate, Good, Neutral, Evil, and Nature; although there is a fifth sphere that covers the realm of undeath and the sea of lost souls - necromancy - the use of which is strictly forbidden in the Protectorate upon the pain of permanent Death.  There may be other spheres that people encounter, but as of yet are unable to make a direct connection to (for example the Sphere of Dreams)

The Dark Sanctum is the home to all those who know that a strong society needs to have strong individuals and although the Protectorate may have lofty ideals about fairness and justice, it exists in a dog eat dog world and so needs those with strength to protect it, and people who are willing to do what it takes to defeat it's foes for those foes will not stop from any trick or tactic, no matter how low or dirty that trick will be.  And even better than a good defence is to pre-emptively stop the Protectorates enemies through whatever means neccecary before they even think of setting foot across the border, for as the guild says "Destroy what would destroy us".  Members of the Sanctum can choose to join one of the sects or even take up arms as a Dark Paladin

The Dark Sanctum is highly active within the political Sphere as well as the military Spheres of the Protectorate and has prominent guild buildings in all Provinces. It is often called upon to support law enforcement activities by the Legion and perhaps surprisingly, is especially effective in cases where the use of non-lethal force has been mandated.

Knowing that the threat of violence can sometimes be more effective that violence itself, The Dark Sanctum maintains stong links to Several nations, including Stygia and The Darklands.  It is common for members of the Sanctum to be sent as emissaries to these states by the Keep when foreign diplomacy is required or just to remind the rulers of these lands that we are watching them.

Speaking of watching, the Dark Sanctum also is home to the seers, those who try to peer through the mists of time and distance to scry on the deeds of the past, or glimpse hints of what is to some, or to question their enemies - even after they have perished.  This means that members of the Sanctum are aware that anything the get up to on a mission may be watched, reviewed, and in the most serious cases brought to the attention of the Guild leader, Balgor Manshredder.  This means that Sanctum members are careful to not stray too far down the path of wanton and needless violence or cruelty for the Sanctum knows it exists as a part of a wider society and must, as Balgor says, not shit in the bed in which it lies.

On Missions members of the Sanctum are often at the forefront of any violence, many being skilled with Shield and Mace for use when they aren't leaping in with destructive invocations bringing harm to the body and spirit of their foes.
