The World of Heroes & Heroines
Greetings New Auxiliary. Fear not for it is Marius the Magnificent-Squeak, mighty Sorcerer of the Air College, here to guide you through your induction. Why is such a famous personage such as Marius here to welcome brand new recruits to the Protectorate Auxiliary program? Well, nothing is more important than your first steps into the world of Idenia and our country of the Protectorate of the Rose and a little guidance from such a seasoned and famous Auxiliary as Marius will go a long way towards your survival and enjoyment of your time here. Plus the Lord Protector ordered me to do it after the incident with the Owlbear. So fear not, for in no time you too will be on your way to becoming one of the Protectorate’s Heroes & Heroines.
The World of Idenia is a High-Hit, High-Fantasy LARP setting where the protagonists are members of the Auxiliaries of the Protectorate of the Rose, effectively the special forces who are sent to do the jobs too dangerous, too specialised, or just too far away for regular means to work. A weapon of last resort, this hodge podge group of misfits…er…highly trained specialists are sent in to operate independently, to make decisions in the field… And occasionally leave us wondering if we’re not the bad guys after all.
In Heroes and Heroines, players take on the persona of one these Auxiliaries, generally broken down into either a martial character whose bread and butter is heavy armour, weapons and a good scrap, Power Users who are the spiritual guides and follow the ethos of either good, neutrality, or evil (thought these are just labels), or may step outside morality and tie themselves to the wheel of the seasons as a druid, and lastly the Magi, wielders of the power of Mana to create magical effects based on their chosen element or elements and if one masters them all then one may even be able to obtain the status as a prismatic caster and use all the elements combined (no don’t worry, one of the elements isn’t ‘heart’).
Mission (a.k.a. events) generally last 36 hours usually somewhere in The UK Midlands, starting Friday night and ending about midday on Sunday, and are a mix of combat, social encounters, puzzles, and plenty of enjoyment with your fellow players and the hard working volunteers who make up the monster crew for that event, taking on every persona that you’ll meet in Idenia from the lowliest Emperor to the mightiest gong farmer, from mundane creatures such as wolves, to extravagant monsters such as the wendigo. Occasionally there may be an 8 hour (one day) event for the mini-Auxiliaries or a special 66 hour (3 night) event for extra important missions.
If you are just starting out and want to know if Idenia and Larping is for you, the Protectorate Armoury can help out by hiring out weapons and costumes until you decide that you want to go all in and buy or make your own kit to customise your character. And don’t fear, in Idenia characters are endowed with great spiritual strength that can allow them to come back after even death, at least a certain number of times, so you don’t need to worry that your character might die just after your get their kit perfect, a resurrection spell later and you’ll be ready for another mission and hopefully a little wiser for the experience.
At Heroes and Heroines (I think we’re friends now, so call us H&H) we are a wonderful bunch of welcoming, fun loving people who want to share the joy of Larping with as many people as possible through our small, volunteer run club. You’ll find a huge diverse range of characters and players where the only limits are your imagination and the rules (very good rules, so good they are Larp con’s club system of the year 2025). Many of our members find Larping great for mental health, and no matter your physical ability there’s a role that can be tailored for you.
So, are you ready to come along to your first H&H event and take your first steps in your career as an Auxiliary of the Protectorate? Then pack your sense of adventure and come Join the Adventure now!
Right, court ordered motivating speech given, Marius away!
